WHAT IS A NOTARY PUBLIC

A Notary is a position created by state law allowing individuals, as state public officials, to:

  • Acknowledge signatures upon personal knowledge or satisfactory proof

  • Administer oaths

  • Record and/or transcribe depositions

  • Confirm the authenticity of signatures on affidavits.

You might be wondering, why do people need a notary to sign documents? Can’t they just sign it and be on their own ways? Quick answer - No. A notary is essential to confirm your identity. During this process, a notary would require you to provide identification documents and signature samples. It also includes submission and a record of thumbprints. The bottom line is, a notary’s duty is to prevent fraudulent transactions.
